About Us
The Sunset Grille was opened in December of 1988 by then newlyweds, Nancy and Rich Haab. Almost 30 years later, with the help of their 4 daughters, the couple is still working hard to make the Sunset a gathering place for locals and tourists alike.
Rich, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, moved to Stowe from Long Island in 1985. His love of skiing is what brought him here. At roughly the same time, Nancy, a graduate of Johnson and Wales Culinary School , moved to Stowe from New Jersey to take up skiing for the very first time. The couple met in a place called Lil’ Abner’s Tavern. Four years, and many runs down Mt. Mansfield later, they married and purchased Lil’ Abners Tavern and created the Sunset Grille & Tap Room!
Being a part of the Stowe Community is what has made the Sunset Grille the Sunset Grille! Over the years we have supported our community as much as possible. Stowe Schools, Stowe Youth Hockey and Baseball, Stowe Booster Club, Mount Mansfield Ski Club, The Helen Day Art Center, and the stowe theater Guild to name a few. In return the community of Stowe has given us a home and a wonderful place to raise our family, as well as the support and patronage to keep our restaurant going strong all these years. We are so lucky to call the town of Stowe our home.
